Assistant Foreign Minister Abdulla bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri affirmed that respect of human rights and dignity is a consistent strategic approach in the ongoing reform process of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He stressed the royal keenness to promote human rights and political and civil liberties as well as economic, social and cultural rights by strengthening autonomy of the judiciary and setting up national protective mechanisms for the preservation and respect of human dignity. He pointed out the efforts of the government to develop and modernise national legislation in accordance with the constitution and international covenants, full voluntary pledges and constructive cooperation with the Human Rights Council and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and openness to credible international organizations.
The Assistant Foreign Minister was speaking as he chaired the 20th meeting of the High Human Rights Coordination Committee at the ministry’s court which was attended by representatives of government ministries and relevant official institutions.

The Committee discussed a number of national reports being prepared, the first draft of the reports on the rights of the child and the rights of persons with disabilities was adopted. In this regard, the Assistant Foreign Minister thanked the Minister of Labour and Social Development, Chairman of the National Committee for Childhood, Jameel bin Mohammed Hmaidan for the great efforts made in preparing those reports, which reflects Bahrain’s progress in protecting child’s rights and people with disabilities, and the achievements made towards the advancement and renaissance of the future generation.

The Committee also discussed the recommendations of the United Nations on the third national report of the universal periodic review mechanism, informing the Committee of the responses of ministries and governmental and official bodies, adopting all proposals and responses and the recommendations to be submitted to the 35th session of the Human Rights Council, to be held in Geneva from September 11 to 27, 2017. The Committee also discussed all notifications received on human rights issues, taking appropriate action and responding to them. (MOFA)
