Motorists must give priority to pedestrians to avoid run-over accidents on roads, according to the Sharjah Police.
The police also urged pedestrians to follow traffic regulations to protect themselves by crossing from designated areas as jaywalking will result in deaths and injuries.
A top official at the traffic and patrol department of the Sharjah Police revealed that despite the decrease in accidents on internal roads, run-over accidents are happening due to non-compliance with traffic rules.
Motorists were urged to reduce speed on busy internal roads as there will be elderly and children who cannot judge their safety on the road.
According to the revised federal traffic law, motorists who fail to give way to pedestrians will be slapped with a fine of Dh500 and six black points.
