GCC Ministers of Transportation are expected to hold their meeting on 5th October 2011. The meeting will be presided over by Minister of Public Works the chairman of the National Transportation Authority Shaikh Humaidan bin Mubarak Al-Nahayan to discuss numerous topics the most important of which is the GCC Railways’ project. The meeting will be preceded by a preparatory meeting of the GCC Ministries’ of Transportation undersecretaries on 3-4 October 2011. The director-general of the National Transportation Authority Dr. Saif Al-Mansouri told the Emirate’s News Agency that the current round of GCC Transportation Ministers’ meetings in Abu Dhabi will discuss a number of topics pertaining to land, railways and sea transportation activities including railway linkage between the GCC states. He pointed out that the meeting will also discuss the economic feasibility study of railway linkage between the GCC states and the Republic of Yemen, the Riyadh Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) regarding inspection and monitoring of ships in the GCC countries and safety regulations for small ships not included in the international conventions. The meeting will discuss among other topics the minutes of the GCC 7th meeting of the Technical Committee for Land Transportation and Roads Engineering which was convened on September 6, 2011 in addition to the 1st meeting held by the specialist committee for enactment of articles 5 and 12 of the GCC standard Economic Agreement for Transportation which was held on 29th May 2011.
