The GCC member countries have today officially recognized the Syrian National Coalition as the sole representative of the Syrian people. Established yesterday as per the agreement signed in Doha, the coalition includes the revolutionary forces as well as the Syrian opposition. In a statement issued today, GCC secretary-general Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani said that the six-member bloc would provide assistance for the new entity to achieve the aspirations and hopes of the Syrian people. He hoped the recognition would fast-track political transition, stop the bloodshed, protect Syria’s territorial integrity and pave the way for a general national conference towards building an inclusive state for all its, people, without any exclusion or discrimination, where the rule of the law prevails. “The GCC countries are now looking forward for all the Arab states and the international community to recognize the new coalition, which brings together all components of the opposition inside Syria and abroad, and provide the necessary support”, Dr. Al-Zayani said, paying tribute to Qatar led by Amir Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, as well as its wise Government for the fruitful efforts .
