GCC Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif Al Zayani said that the general-secretariat is looking into establishing a GCC organization in charge of coordinating all the humanitarian efforts with regional and international organizations.
Speaking to the press on the sidelines of a UN initiative event to honor the leaders of the humanitarian work held by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Doha, Al Zayani said that leaders of GCC member countries agreed on the importance of issuing a unified law on volunteer work.
Al Zayani added that the leaders of GCC members are committed to UN humanitarian work, as evident by many conferences held to support Syrians and Yemenis. The GCC Secretary-General also expressed his appreciation to honoring leaders of humanitarian work in the GCC under the auspices of HE the Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.
Al Zayani added that the role of UN Envoy on humanitarian affairs is a difficult one. He also expressed his pleasure at choosing Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed Al-Muraikhi as the UN Secretary-General's Envoy on Humanitarian Affairs. Al Zayani said the GCC is more than ready to cooperate with the new UN official.
