A fire broke out at a landfill at Industrial Area 12 in Sharjah on Thursday. Brigadier Abdullah Saeed Al Suwaidi, director general of Sharjah Civil Defence, told Gulf News that the fire at the landfill, managed by Sharjah Municipality, broke around 12pm and took more than one hour to extinguish. A fire on Wednesday gutted 12 warehouses in Industrial Area 15 in Sharjah. “Wednesday’s fires started at a furniture warehouse, which then spread and gutted three furniture houses owned by the same company and then extended to all the neighbouring warehouses that stored garments, electronics, cables, plastics among others,” said Brig Al Suwaidi. 12 warehouses were gutted in the fire,” he said. “We had the support of firefighters from Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain. Though the fire was spreading very fast, our team managed to save a neighbouring medical store,” he said. Brig Al Suwaidi said the firefighters were now undertaking a cooling process throughout the gutted warehouses.
