Ramallah - WAFA

Al-Ayyam daily Tuesday quoted the Egyptian presidency saying that there are no plans to establish a duty free zone between Egypt and the Gaza Strip. Al-Quds daily featured sources in Hamas movement saying it is expected that Ismail Haniyeh is to be elected as Hamas executive president succeeding current leader Khalid Misha’al.    Al-Ayyam reported on the Arab League calling on United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the international Quartet to respond to Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Lieberman’s threats against President Mahmoud Abbas. Al-Hayat al-Jadida highlighted the thousands of Palestinians who participated in a march commemorating the 12th anniversary of Jerusalem and al-Aqsa rise in 2000. The three papers printed photos of hundreds of Palestinians flying flag of Palestine in the march in the city of Sakhnin in the lower Galilee. Al-Hayat al-Jadida and al-Ayyam reported on Jewish groups spreading in the old city of Jerusalem along warnings of calls to break into al-Aqsa mosque on Tuesday. Al-Hayat al-Jadida focused on PLO executive committee member Hanan Ashrawi stating that a US document addressed to the European Union threatens of serious consequences if EU supports the Palestinian bid to the United Nations General Assembly.
