Agriculture Ministry denied a report published by Reuters alleging that Egypt intends to stop sending abroad agricultural quarantine inspectors to clear imported wheat.
In a statement Friday, the ministry stressed that the Central Authority of Plant Quarantine is consistently sending its inspectors and specialists to check the imported wheat shipments.
The statement added that the maximum allowed ergot level in imported wheat is 0.05% in line with the Codex Alimentarius.
The Agriculture Ministry has reached an agreement with the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to swiftly send a FAO expert to review, with the sides concerned in Egypt, the dangers of the ergot fungus, the statement noted.
