The Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, DFWAC, organised on Monday the first seminar for domestic workers' agencies about prevention of human trafficking, at the Palace Hotel in Dubai.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, and the Ministry of Interior participated in the event Afra Al Basti, Director-General of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, stressed in her keynote speech in the seminar, which was held under the slogan, "Together for the Prevention of Human Trafficking", that organising the event comes within the framework of the foundation's contribution to combating this crime, "which is one of the most serious crimes throughout the ages, and affects the whole community."
She added that the wise leadership of the UAE pays great attention to the fight against this crime through laws and procedures, which doubles the responsibilities of the concerned entities to coordinate with one other to raise community awareness of the crime of human trafficking and how to prevent it, and apply the necessary mechanisms to do so.
Al Basti explained that the seminar primarily targets the domestic workers' recruitment agencies to enhance their role in spreading awareness among the domestic labour group, who have become an integral part of many families and homes in UAE society, and who are also one of the most vulnerable to human trafficking for various reasons.
She added that holding on to the values and principles of the UAE in maintaining human dignity of every person, without discrimination, and promoting the values of tolerance and brotherhood and maintaining financial and social rights, is the key to confronting this crime, calling for labour recruitment offices to be a reference for each worker who is currently working in the UAE or who will be recruited from abroad, to protect them from traffickers.
