Upon the directive of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and based on the findings of a visit to all seven emirates by General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Sheikh Mohammed has ordered the construction of an internal road system connecting different areas of the emirate of Ras Al Khaimah for the benefitof all citizens The directive is aligned with several new infrastructure developments under way in the UAE, and once completed, this road system will contribute to facilitation of trade, commerce and tourism activities in the emirate of Ras Al Kaimah. The road system, totaling 300 kilometres, will service 51 residential areas. Constructed in accordance with the highest standards and latest technical specifications, the project will consider all necessary safety requirements to effectively service the drivers and residents of the area. The project will involve building new roads in existing residential areas, as well as, the development of roads where new housing for UAE citizens is currently under construction. The project will also include re-configuring and paving local and major access roads. A consultation firm was commissioned to design the road system and oversee its development, with a number of local companies awarded the construction contracts. To ensure its efficient and timely completion, the project is being undertaken in three phases. Phase One, currently underway, includes the construction of approximately 110 kilometers of internal roads in 7 areas of the emirate, including: Al Dhait (7-8-9-10), Sothern Al Dhait, Al Rams and Julphfar. Completion is expected in May 2013. Completion of Phase Two, also currently underway, is scheduled for August 2013. It includes the construction of approximately 118 kilometers of internal roads across 21 areas, including: Al Breirat, Shamal, Saih, Al Fahlain, Al Falyya, Ghaleela, Wadi Ghaleela, Al Kharaan, Al Salhiya, Khor Khwair, Bani Bakhit, Kabda, Khuzam and North Al Dhait, Al Nakheel, Al Mamoura, Al Muairidh, Ras Al Khaimah, Shaam, Al Jeer and Al Dagdaga. Construction works in Phase Three has started and is expected to be completed in August 2013. This road system is 72 kilometers long and covers 23 areas, including: Al Rafaa, Al Jazeera Al Hamra, Al Asheesh, Al Gheel, Aasama,, Ghadaf, Dafta, Al Hamraniya, Khareija, Al Huweilat, Fashgha, Ethen, Kadra, Wadi Al Safni, Khat, Massafi, Al Muneie, Waab, Shawka, Umm Araj, Mamdouh, Sukhaiber and Safi.
