Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Chief Executive Officer Osama Abdulla Al-Absi led Bahrain’s delegation to the meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA), which opened today in Beirut, Lebanon.
Addressing the session, Al-Absi shed light on the LMRA-run flexible work permit, the first pilot project of its kind in the Middle East.
He outlined Bahrain’s efforts to enhance the labour market, stressing legislations protecting expatriates workers and the establishment of a centre dedicated to protecting foreign workers and ensuring them services.
He shed light on the centre for sheltering human trafficking victims, as well as the flexible work permit scheme which was launched to regulate the situation of illegal workers, taking into account legal, humanitarian and social considerations.
The United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA) held the regional consultative meeting, in cooperation with the World Migration Organisation (WMO), the Arab League and UN agencies concerned with international migration in the Arab region.
