The awareness campaign launched by the Traffic Department of the Ministry of Interior during the Holy fasting month of Ramadan has proved effective with the decline in the number of deaths due to accidents, a senior official said. Brigadier Mohammad Saad Al Kharji said, "Raising the awareness of young people and inculcating a culture of good traffic etiquette has helped reduce the number of deaths due to accidents." The Brigadier General said this while addressing the participants of a seminar held here to raise awareness of people, particularly the younger generation, on various traffic issues. A large gathering of young people benefited from the seminar organised by the Traffic Department in association with the Doha Youth Centre, Qatargas, the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage. While appreciating the participation of these organisations in the awareness campaign Brigadier Al Kharji said, "The traffic management is open to listen to the voice of young people and accept constructive criticism." The management was ready to accept suggestions, queries and even reports via e-mail, fax or telephone, he added. The campaign during Ramadan has proved successful with the decline in rash driving and the incidence of showmanship by young motorcyclists, he said and praised the efforts of the Automobile Club and Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation in stamping out this menace of daredevilry paraded by youngsters on busy streets. Attracting youngsters inclined to indulge in such acts to Lusail circuit and other zones earmarked for such events was a good solution, he added.
