A coordination meeting of countries hosting Palestinian refugees opened in Amman on Sunday with the participation of delegations representing Jordan, Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, Egypt as well as the Arab League.
According to the Director General of Palestinian Affairs Department Yassin Abu Awad, the meeting aims to coordinate Arab efforts before UNRWA’s Consultative Committee meeting which will be held in Amman on Monday and Tuesday.
Abu Awad highlighted Jordan’s role in supporting the Palestinian issue, and ensuring the continuity of UNRWA’s work to serve the Palestinian refugees.
He said Jordan provides more than JD1 billion annually to serve the Palestinian refugees and provide them with decent living conditions.
The meeting is expected to discuss health and educational programs of UNRWA and coordinate stances of Arab countries to urge donor countries to meet their commitments to the UN agency.
