An Algerian diplomat denied that his country was in a competition with Egypt over the commissioner post of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) of the African Union.
Reports came out that Egypt intends to pull out its candidate for the top PSC post in favor of Algerian candidate and incumbent commissioner Ismail Chergui due to the sensitive situation in Africa caused by crises and conflicts, the diplomat, who asked to be unnamed, told Algerian newspaper “El Khabar”.
Asked about the veracity of reports about nominating Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra for the post of the AU Commissioner, the source denied them, saying that the country is focusing on the PSC and would leave out other posts to nominations from other countries, especially from the south Africa region.
