The Al Ain National Museum brought together representatives of governmental and educational institutions on a tour of the historical and cultural sites of Al Ain between 22nd and 24th November, through its new initiative, 'My Old House'.
Among those invited were delegates from the General Directorate of Customs, the Department of Municipal Affairs and Transportation, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Al Ain Police Directorate, Abu Dhabi Education Council, Sheikha Amna Religious Heritage Centre, Al Ain Municipality Centre in Mazyad, and The International Fund for Houbara Conservation.
The visitors were told how through their simple architectural details, the walls of old houses tell stories of the past, houses with different interiors, some built with mud, some with stone. Despite being in different places, certain elements tie them together while other elements highlight the differences between them. All these historic buildings create a picture of these past communities, with their watchtowers and mosques, through different fragments of time.
The tour spanned seven historical and cultural sites of Al Ain National Museum, Al Ain Oasis, Al Qubaisi House, Jimi Historic Buildings, Qattara Historic Buildings, and Qattara Arts Centre and Souk.
