HE Minister of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs Dr. Issa bin Saad Al Jafali Al Nuaimi has underlined the attention and care provided by the State of Qatar to the expatriate workforce at all levels, stressing the determination of Qatar, under the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to further advance this important category in the upcoming period.
In his remarks today on the sidelines of the ministry's celebration of International Workers' Day, His Excellency revealed the formation of labor dispute committee to adjudicate cases related to labor disputes. The committee will be headed by a judge appointed by the Supreme Judicial Council and the membership of a number of ministry employees, he said, adding that it will be located in the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs.
HE the Minister also pointed out that workers in Qatar are safe and secure and enjoy all the services provided by the ministry regarding lodging complaints through the Ministry's building, through 11 service complexes available throughout the country, or through the Ministry's website. He pointed out that there are more than 400 work inspectors conducting field visits to work sites to ensure the health and safety of workers as well as workers accommodations and that they meet international standards.
His Excellency also noted the issuance of several decisions to protect and care for expatriate workers, including determining the conditions and specifications of suitable housing for workers, fixing working hours, and open workplaces during the summer, in addition to many legislations to be issued soon. He expressed his satisfaction at the status of workers in the State of Qatar and the provided care and attention at all levels.
HE Al Nuaimi pointed to the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor, and Social Affairs' keenness of cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications to launch of The Better Connections Program, which will enable the provision of 15000 computers for workers at a cost of QR5.5 million along with the provision of software licenses and Internet access to all devices, and 1500 volunteers to train workers on how to communicate with their families using these computers.
This year's celebration of International Workers' Day, held at the Qatar Sports Club, witnessed a number of awareness-raising events presented by a number of ministries and institutions tasked with workers affairs, including Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor, and Social Affairs, the Ministry of the Interior, the Qatar Red Crescent and others.
The ceremony included a review of the efforts exerted by the State in inspecting the facilities and factories along with the provision of guidance in the field of occupational health and safety at the work sites. The ceremony also posed a number of questions about safety procedures and distributed prizes to those who provided correct answers, and honored distinguished companies and distinguished workers.
