As many as 6,511 traffic violations of not paying attention while driving were recorded in the first half of 2017 in Sharjah, the Traffic and Patrol Department of Sharjah Police said on Tuesday.
A top police official said the traffic department in the emirate is in full swing to implement the new traffic laws that have come into effect since July 1.
He added that the new Article No. 32 of the traffic laws stipulates that a fine of Dh800 and 4 traffic points will be levied on those who use mobile phone while driving (complete list of traffic fines).
"There were many traffic violations of failing to pay attention while driving has also been recorded during the last four days of implementing the rules, but will soon be release by statistic department of Sharjah Police."
