Five people were injured, one of them seriously, in two separate accidents in Sharjah yesterday. A bus driver was seriously injured in a collision with a pick-up truck on Al Dhaid Road in Sharjah yesterday afternoon. The driver of the pick-up truck and his passenger sustained minor injuries. Sharjah Police said the accident, which occurred at around 3.30pm, was a result of speeding and a failure to maintain a safe distance between the two vehicles. Sharjah Police had to use a hydraulic cutter to extract the bus driver from the mangled wreckage. The bus driver, a 45-year-old Indian man identified as V.S., together with the occupants of the pick-up truck, were rushed to Al Qasimi Hospital. V.S. was admitted to the emergency section after suffering serious injuries to his legs. His condition was listed as critical. In a separate accident, two Asian motorists were injured in a head-on collision yesterday afternoon at a new traffic junction in an industrial area in Sharjah. Police said a lack of attention and a failure to maintain lane discipline were to blame. The two suffered minor injuries and were transferred to Al Qasimi Hospital for treatment, a police official said.
