Dubai - Arabstoday

Jumping red signal and reckless driving cause horrendous accidents in UAE. Two people died in less than four hours on Sunday evening increasing the number of road deaths to six in a streak of horrendous accidents in the UAE since the beginning of this month. The casualties include an Emirati, according to Senior Chief Traffic Prosecutor Salah Bu Farousha, Head of Dubai Traffic Public Prosecution (TPP). \"A 24-year-old Emirati driver braked for nearly 23 meters after he jumped a red signal and hit another car which was [travelling] in the right direction … the Emirati\'s car then hit a pedestrian signpost before overturning a number of times and then crashing into the wall of house in Al Barsha. The driver died on his way to hospital shortly after the accident which happened around 8:40pm. \"Shortly afterwards around 11:30pm, a 40-year-old Bangladeshi bus driver caused a passenger\'s death. Due to reckless driving, his bus collided with a huge truck causing the accident on Emirates Road,\" Bu Farousha said. Traffic Prosecutor Ali Al Hammadi, who conducted the onsite inspections of the second accident site, placed the Bangladeshi bus driver in provisional detention pending further investigations, according to Bu Farousha. Speeding Colonel Mohammad Nasser, Deputy Director of the Criminal Investigation Department for Police Stations and Centres, said the Emirati driver, was identified as S.T.A., and he jumped the red signal as a result of speeding. The operations room received a report about the accident and police patrols rushed to the accident scene. Bu Farousha said the 44-year-old Indian man, who drove the other car that the Emirati rammed into, sustained moderate injuries and was admitted to Rashid Hospital for treatment. Col Nasser said S.T.A., who was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser, hit a Mitsubishi Pajero. According to the TPP\'s head, in the second accident, the Bangladeshi driver lost control of his vehicle and veered off the lane before hitting a heavy truck. \"Due to the strong impact, the truck skidded and overturned. The bus driver has been placed under provisional detention for causing the death of the passenger, who succumbed to his injuries at the accident site. A traffic technical committee will report on the causes of the accident while the investigation continues,\" said Bu Farousha. He renewed his call to motorists and road users to be more cautious and attentive and abide by traffic rules. From: Gulfnews
