Spanish police arrested on Wednesday two people in separate regions in Spain in collaboration with Morocco on suspicion of Islamic State (IS) links, said the country’s Interior Ministry.
The suspects included a 41-year-old Moroccan man detained in Vitoria, located 360 kilometers (223 miles) north of Madrid, in the Basque region of Spain and a 36-year-old Spanish woman arrested in Alicante, some 400 km south of the capital.
The 41-year old suspect is accused of recruiting young people to join the IS, while the Spanish woman had reportedly tried to travel to the Syrian-Iraqi war-torn region along with her four children to join IS.
On Tuesday, the ministry issued a communiqué, saying that a 33-year-old Moroccan man also linked to ISIS has been arrested in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on the suspicion of planning to carry out a terrorist attack in Spain.
According to the communiqué, Spanish Security Forces and Security Corps have arrested 188 terrorists linked to ISIS since the country raised the national anti-terror threat level to four in 2015 following deadly terrorist attacks in Europe.
