The three-time African best player is of the view that a local coach could do as well as a European counterpart and nothing should stop the FA from appointing one.Ghana football legend, Abedi Pele, is making a claim for local coaches as football authorities shop for a new trainer for the Black Stars. The former captain of the senior national team of the west African country is arguing that with the much needed resources, local coaches can perform equally compared to their European counterparts and sometimes better.Speaking to Goal.com, Abedi said it is baseless to shoot down the idea of appointing a Ghanaian technical handler for the four-time African champions’ job because all the continental titles won by the Black Stars came during the reigns of local coaches. The Nations Cup was won thrice by veteran coach C.K Gyamfi and once by Fred Osam-Doudu.Ghanaian-born former France international, Marcel Desailly, has been tipped to take over from sacked Goran Stevanovic. Abedi said that he will not be a bad choice.“I don’t mind if a Ghanaian takes the job,” the ‘Maestro’ told Goal.com. “They have to give him [Desailly] all the support that they gave to the European coaches.”“Look, those who have won all the trophies for Ghana are all local coaches. What is wrong with keeping a local coach?”The Ghana Football Association is likely to announce a new coach this week.
