London - Arabstoday

The Cottagers enjoyed the better of the play but fell behind to a controversial Frank Lampard penalty, before a late Clint Dempsey goal meant the match finished level. When asked if he believed his side deserved to win, Jol told reporters: “I think so. It was our second game in a couple days, they made six changes and we made two. “In the first half we caused them real problems. The penalty decision was soft and it was a bad time to concede. We always believed and we played some good stuff. “We have had two good draws against them in similar style and we did the same today. We showed very good character. “If you look at the qualities they’ve got, they needed a win. Considering the situation there was a real urgency. I thought we restricted them but we should have created more chances in front of goal.” The former Ajax man also admitted he was baffled by referee Mark Clattenburg’s decision to award Chelsea a penalty, adding: “It was confusing. We thought it was Danny Murphy but it turned out to be Stephen Kelly in an accidental collision. “I’m not sure if it’s an English phrase, but he tripped himself. The ref said it was Kelly, which made it confusing as I thought it was Murphy, but he touched the ball. On TV you could see it clearly wasn’t on purpose.” Jol was also quick to praise Dempsey, after the forward continued his excellent scoring record, and had kind words for attacking duo Damien Duff and Karim Frei He added: “He [Dempsey] was very efficient. He holds the ball up well and he’s always dangerous if you give good delivery. \"Where we did well was with our width, particularly Duff and Frei, who did very well for a young boy and played with some flair.” The 56-year-old backed his old side Tottenham to grab a Champions League spot despite losing 2-1 at home to Norwich. He said: “I think Spurs will finish in the top four because they have all the quality. They showed it today and they will show it again.”?
