The Afghan national security forces have repulsed an offensive by the Taliban militants to seize control of the strategic Kunduz city, Khaama Press cited local officials as saying Friday.
Provincial police chief General Mohammad Qasim Jangalbagh said the Taliban militants launched coordinated attack on Kunduz city and other nearby districts in the early hours of Friday morning.
He said at least 40 Taliban insurgents were killed after the attack was repulsed by the Afghan security forces in the outskirts of Kunduz city and at least six other districts.
The Taliban militants seized the control of the city late in mid-2015 after launched coordinated attacks on the city.
