At least two policemen and a civilian were killed and two others were injured when a suicide bomber rammed his explosive-laden car into a police vehicle on Tuesday in eastern Nangarhar province, said officials.
The spokesman for governor, Ahmadzai Abdulzai told media that the attack took place in Ghanikhelo district.
Following a tip-off regarding presence of a suicide bomber in the area, a police contingent was dispatched to locate the bomber but the suicide attacker blew himself up as soon as he saw the police party approaching him, he added.
Dr. Gul Rahman, director of Ghanikhelo Civil Hospital said that three dead and two wounded had been admitted to the hospital.
According to local media reports, Taliban rebels have claimed the responsibility of the attack saying that six local policemen had been killed and ten others wounded in the attack.
The attack came at a time when Afghan forces have to take overall security of country in their hands as NATO/ISAF forces are preparing to leave the country till end of this year.
