At least eight local and three national policemen have been killed in attacks by militants in northern Kunduz and northwestern Faryab provinces of Afghanistan, said officials on Thursday.
Deputy Governor of Kunduz province, Hamdullah Danishi confirmed the killings of eight Afghan Local Police (ALP) men in Gor Tepa area of the province. He further told media that Asadullah, who led the Afghan Local Police (ALP) force in Kunduz City, was among the fatalities.
The Afghan Taliban are still fighting in Gor Tepa area where they captured two Afghan Local Police (ALP) check posts and took some security personnel hostage, he added.
Meanwhile, three Afghan National Police (ANP) men lost their lives in a militant attack in Faryab province. Police chief Col. Muhammad Naveed Andarabi said the deaths resulted from a militant attack on a security post in Maimana.
According to local media reports, Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid claimed inflicting heavy losses on the ALP in the area. He said the fighters had made eight ALP members hostage besides seizing a huge cache of arms and ammunition.
