The Israeli occupation forces have cancelled the Friday prayer for the first time in nearly four decades, Director of Islamic Awqaf Department Azaam Al Khatib said today.
The move followed a shootout at the holy shrine’s compound, which left three Palestinians and two Israeli officers dead, he added.
Al Khatib noted that the Israeli soldiers attacked the mosque’s guards and confiscated their mobile phones and forced worshippers to leave the mosque, before closing its gates.
