Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he will not accept any solution that does not include the establishment of a Palestinian state on the 1967 border with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Palestinian President made the remarks during a meeting with representatives of the Palestinian community and heads of Arab organizations in the United States. Abbas began on Tuesday a three-day official visit to US, where he will meet with President Donald Trump later on Wednesday.
On the issue of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, Abbas stressed that the prisoners have humanitarian demands and hoped that their strike will not be prolonged because their lives will be in danger.
For his part, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a spokesman for the Palestinian presidency, said that Abbas will emphasize to Trump that solution to the conflict is based on the two-state solution, with a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders.
In a statement to Palestine TV, Abu Rudeineh expressed readiness for a just and comprehensive peace that will lead to the establishment of a state and the preservation of the dignity of the Palestinian people, as well as the Palestinian and Arab constants.
During his visit to Washington, Abbas is scheduled to meet with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, National Security Adviser Lt. Gen. Herbert Raymond McMaster and senior US officials. Some analysts and observers said that the visit is important in light of the prisoners' hunger strike and the Israeli settlement policies.
The Palestinian side will confirm during the visit its commitment to the peace process and the option of a two-state solution on the 1967 borders based on the Arab initiative and all relevant resolutions, in addition to the serious situation facing the city of Jerusalem in light of the fierce settlement attack, according to the observers.
