The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Thursday extended JD186 million under a grant protocol agreement to support Jordan’s educational sector, a statement by Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation said .
Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Emad Fakhoury and UNICEF Representative to Jordan Robert Jenkins signed the grant agreement, which aims to support “Maan, (together) Towards a Safe School Environment” initiative that seeks to eliminate all types of violence in schools.
The agreement is part of a project that will be implemented during February 2017 – February 2018.The project aims at supporting the Ministry of Education’s efforts and its continuous educational improvement, in line with priorities of the 2016-2025 National Strategy for Human Resources Development .
The project also aims at completing and strengthening of the “Together Campaign” as a major program implemented by Educational Guidance Department at the ministry.
The campaigns also focuses on strengthening the capacity of the coordinators and members of advocacy groups in schools, institutionalize procedures and guidelines for detecting and responding to violence, ensuring and implementing a campaign at the district level in the field, to measure levels of violence in schools and institutionalize it.
The “Maan” (“Together”) campaign, is a nationwide initiative that was launched in 2009 by UNICEF and the Ministry of Education, to help reduce the incidence of verbal violence in schools across the country.
