A Turkish soldier was killed in clashes with Kurdish militants in southeastern Turkey, the army said on Sunday. Clashes broke out between military forces and armed men from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in a town at Bingol province, killing one soldier and injurying two others, said the army in a statement via its website. It added that reinforcements were dispatched to the area -- backed by helicopters. Hostilities between the PKK militants and the Turkish regular forces have been escalating over the past weeks. Thirteen Turkish soldiers and seven militants were killed in clashes last month. (end) ta.gta KUNA 181107 Sep 11NNNN
