Environment Minister Khaled Fahmy on Friday said that cooperation between Egypt and African countries is the main element of success to satisfy aspirations of the continent.
Fahmy made the remarks during the sixth special session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN), kicked off on Friday.
He added that the conference is not tackling environment issues ony, but also economic ones.
The African continent face great challenges including the quest for rapid growth and providing job opportunities for young people, the Egyptian minister said.
The conference will run for four days under the rubric "Agenda 2030 .. Africa .. from policies to implementation."
The conference, which groups 54 countries, is working to provide leadership at the African level to negotiate over global and regional environmental issues related to implementing international conventions in the areas of biodiversity, desertification and climate change.
