Dozens of Israeli military jeeps entered the northern West Bank city of Nablus overnight Tuesday to escort Israelis visiting a holy site in the city, witnesses and the army said. An Israeli military spokesman said the army was protecting around 1,200 Israelis in a coordinated visit to the site believed to be Joseph's tomb in Nablus. Visits to the tomb are usually coordinated by the army and Palestinian Authority security forces. Under the Oslo accords, the city of Nablus is in Area A and is part of the 17 percent of the West Bank under Palestinian civil and security control.
