French Foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault has welcomed a draft resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly to condemn the humanitarian crisis in Aleppo.
The draft resolution, submitted by Canada, calls for an immediate and complete end to all random attacks on civilians in Syria.
The resolution gives priority to a political solution to end the Syrian crisis that started about six years ago, Ayrault said in a statement Saturday.
The top diplomat said the Canadian initiative gives the world community a chance to send a strong message in this crucial stage of the Syrian conflict.
It is never too late when it comes to saving lives and helping distressed residents, Ayrault noted.
It is up to the Syrian regime and its supporters, mainly Russia, to respond without delay to demands of the UN General Assembly, Ayrault said.
