Minister of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Safadi and his Belgian counterpart Didier Reynders agreed on Monday to increase economic cooperation and political coordination, and take all necessary measures to forge closer ties between the two countries.
Safadi, currently on a visit to Brussels, also discussed with Reynders the latest developments in the region, mainly efforts to solve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution.
The two ministers also reviewed the war of terrorism and the current situation in Syria.
Safadi briefed his Belgian counterpart on developments in southern Syria and efforts exerted by Jordan with the United States and Russia to ensure that the ceasefire holds.
Jordan he said, backs efforts that aim at ending fighting in all Syrian territories as a first step to achieve a political solutions that preserves the country’s unity and independence.
During the meeting, the two ministers also reviewed the repercussions of the Syria refugee crisis on Jordan and urged the international community to support Jordan to continue its services to the refugees.
Safadi arrives in Brussels today where he will co-chair the 12th meeting of the EU-Jordan Association Council alongside Federica Mogherini, the EU high representative for foreign affairs security policy and vice president of the EU Commission.
