Prime Minister of the Palestinian Caretaker Government Salam Fayyad praised Qatar\'s continued efforts to support the Palestinian issue, stressing that the financial crisis represents an impediment to the Palestinian Authority. Fayyad told the Qatari daily (al-Sharq) that the Palestinian Authority urgently needs $ 300 million to overcome its current crisis, noting that the PA could only manage to pay half the salaries it owed last month to its employees. For his part, a senior political leader of Islamic Jihad movement Khalid Al-Batsh hailed Qatar\'s role to serve the Palestinian cause at political or development levels. In remarks to al-Sharq newspaper on the sidelines of the Conference to Support the Choice of Resistance in Cairo, Al-Batsh said that the State of Qatar has provided much aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, pointing out that there are civil society institutions working in the Gaza Strip, including Eid Charity Foundation, Relief Foundation of Qatar, Qatar Charitable Society and Qatar Red Crescent. It is noteworthy that the Arab League held an extraordinary meeting at the level of permanent representatives on Tuesday at the request of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the latest developments of the Palestinian issue in light of the PA financial crisis.
