Turkish Ambassador Hatun Demirer paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa, commending Bahrain’s firm rejection of any attempt to subvert constitutional legitimacy in her country.
She made the statement as Turkey commemorates the first anniversary of the thwarted coup attempt that took place on July 15 last year and the nation is still struggling to overcome the trauma of its threat.
“During such crucial times, the support and encouragement of friendly countries and nations are priceless,” she said. “His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa was the first leader from the region and the Arab world to pay an official visit to Turkey following the coup attempt. Bahrain’s principled stance in strongly rejecting any attempt to undermine the constitutional legitimacy in Turkey under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the Turkish government will never be forgotten by our country. That visit was a genuine reflection of the solid and brotherly relations between the two countries.
On this occasion, I would like to reiterate our heartfelt thanks to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, HRH the Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, HRH the Crown Prince and First Deputy Premier Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and the great people of Bahrain for standing by Turkey and our people.”
Ambassador Hatun said that “on July 15, 2016, people of Turkey from all backgrounds and political views resisted the coup attempt and displayed a historic example of solidarity.”
“They stood selflessly in front of the tanks and reclaimed their democratic rights. As a result, 250 Turkish citizens were martyred and more than 2,000 people wounded. We remember them with gratitude and pray for their souls to rest in peace.”
Demirer stressed the measures which were taken by her country against the terrorists who carried out the attempted coup.
“There are 78 court cases in 23 different provinces with regard to the coup perpetrators.”
She added that Turkey is fighting terrorism with the rule of law, morality, and democracy.
“We are committed to strengthen our country’s democratic credentials, because we know that this is the only way to counter terrorism in all forms and manifestations,” she said.
