The half-brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai has been wounded in an assassination attempt, reports say. Ahmad Wali Karzai, the younger half-brother of the Afghan president and leader of the Kandahar Provincial Council, was severely injured in a shooting incident, reports say. A controversial politician, some see him as a defender of Pashtun rights. Critics say he is a warlord mired in corruption. He has survived attempts on his life before, most recently in 2009. Initial reports suggest Mr Karzai was shot by his bodyguard in his house in Kandahar. BBC
