Rabat - Rachid Bougha

The unemployed from all regions of Morocco are demanding the departure of  President Abdelilah Benkirane from the  government. Demonstrations led by the unemployed  took place on Wednesday evening and are   likely to continue on Thursday, in front of the parliament building in the centre of Rabat. Their protests extended to the largest street in the capital,  Mohammed V Street, following the violent  intervention of  security forces to disperse the chanting crowds. The protesters closed the street, causing a large traffic jam in the heart of the Moroccan capital for hours, prompting the security forces to intervene. The protestors chanted slogans such as \"the people want to overthrow the government”, and \"There is only one word, this state is corrupted.” The unemployed in Morocco called to boycott the government\'s  employment and recruitment drive which they described as a \"sham and fake\", accusing the government of \"absurdity\" in not ensuring transparency of the recruitment process and failing to achieve its promises such as equality and fairness. Moreover, they claim the government is turning a blind eye to employees who remain in their positions without any right. Disabled and unemployed university graduates also organised a protest  in Rabat on the same day in front of parliament, shouting  slogans and drawing attention to a statement which has been seen by Arabstoday  which says: \"We have been living in a tragic situation of exclusion and marginalisation  for many years because of the stalling and the failure of previous governments and the current government to stop the exclusion of disabled people from public jobs. The participants have decided to boycott all suspicious recruitment drives and to require all government institutions and human rights organisations to provide a quick solution to this case.\"
