Ukrainian security forces have arrested a group of people suspected of plotting to blow up three sites on the railroad in the country's western Lviv city, the Security Service of Ukraine(SBU) said Monday.
"Our investigators have found and detained five members of the terrorist group that planned to simultaneously blow up the railway tracks in three different directions from the regional center," the SBU said in a statement on its website.
The SBU said one of the suspects was detained while attaching an explosive device to a bridge near the village of Dublyany, about 10 km northeast of Lviv city.
The planned attacks have targeted the sections of the railroad lying on the international railway routes, the statement said.
During the searches in the houses of the detainees, the security forces have found an arsenal of weapons, including grenade launchers, grenades, five kg of explosives, 600 grams of TNT, three handguns and various kinds of ammunition, the SBU said.
Further search operations and investigation into the case are underway, it said.
