The UAE is participating in the Annual Meetings of the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group, WBG, and the International Monetary Fund, IMF, which kicked off yesterday here to discuss issues of global concern, including the world economic outlook, poverty eradication, economic development, and aid effectiveness.
The meetings bring together central bankers, ministers of finance and development, parliamentarians, private sector executives, representatives from civil society organisations and academics.
The UAE delegation to the meetings is led by Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, who will hold on the sidelines of the event bilateral meetings with top IMF and WBG officials on ways of strengthening UAE's relations with international financial organisations.
Minister Al Tayer underscored the importance of the meetings in addressing issues of high concern to the Arab region as well as topics of close relevance to macro-economy and the latest economic developments on the global scene.
UAE participation in the annual meetings comes to add more leverage to the prestigious global standing enjoyed by the UAE, the minister said, adding that the ministry will organise a reception during the event to brief the participants on the strong potential of the UAE banking sector and the economic and financial successes achieved by the country over the past years. The reception will be organised by the Ministry of Finance in collaboration with the UAE Central Bank, Dubai International Financial Centre and Abu Dhabi Global Market.
The minister will hold a series of meetings with a number of international officials, primarily IMF Managing Director Christian Lagarde, Dr. Jim Yong Kim, World Bank President, Dr. Hazem Al Biblawi, IMF Executive Director, and Dr. Mirza Hasan, Executive Director of the Arab Group at WBG, and will participate in seminars, panel discussions and workshops to be running on the sidelines of the event.
The UAE delegation to the meetings also includes Central Bank Governor Mubarak Rashid Al Mansouri and a number of senior officials at the Ministry of Finance and CB.
