Tunis - Nabil Zaghdoud

Tozeur Supreme Court in Tunisia acquitted former Libyan Prime Minister Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi on Tuesday from the charge of illegal entry. The defendant's lawyers have confirmed the decision as well. In the meantime, Al-Baghdadi's lawyer Mabrouk Khourchid told 'Arabstoday' that the Supreme Court acquitted his client, adding that he has asked for his immediate release, as there is no longer any reason to keep him in prison. Meanwhile, the former Libyan Prime Minister attended the trial as well, despite the deterioration of his health and he arrived to the court in an ambulance, as he insisted to attend. Attorney General in Libya submitted to the Tunisian authorities a request to extradite Al-Mahmoudi after accusing him of several charges including gunpoint, wasting of public money, and incitement to rape. However, Al-Mahmoudi already obtained political asylum from the government of Central Africa, which has made the extradition impossible.
