Informed military sources stated that the Supreme Council of Armed Forces (SCAF) is looking to cancel Emergency Laws, and that the head of SCAF, Field Marshall Hussein Tantawi, is to announce the decision in the speech he will deliver in the opening session for the new parliament on January 23. According to Egyptian newspaper Al-Shorouk, Tantawi might resort to this decision to contain the wave of anger, and the threats to take to the streets again on January 25, in the first anniversary of the Egyptian revolution. Sources believe that Tantawi will announce, in his parliamentary speech, a number of significant decisions before the anniversary of the revolution, in an attempt to contain the anger prevailing among revolutionary movements. Tantawi is also expected to announce the reduction of the SCAF authorities, by assigning the legislative authorities to the elected parliament.
