Syrian military source said government forces and their allies had taken control of at least 30 kilometers from the border with Jordan in an attack they launched on Thursday.
The military media of Lebanese Hezbollah, a strong ally of Damascus, reported that Syrian army and its allies had taken control of all checkpoints and border posts in Al-Suwayda, one of four provinces bordering Jordan.
Armed groups, some of which receive support from Arab and western countries, continue to control much of the border area between Syria, Jordan and Israel in the south-west of the country.
Al-Suwayda is not covered by the ceasefire agreements brokered by the United States and Russia and implemented in close areas in the southwest of the country in July.
The army advanced towards the border and regained his positions again. The Syrian military source said the army and its allies had seized more than 30 kilometers from the border area and described the progress as "a great success."
