Thousands of Egyptian students on Tuesday held a march from Cairo University to Abbas Bridge to commemorate the 66th anniversary of the Qasr Al-Nil Bridge incident which witnessed the deaths of hundreds of students while protesting against King Farouk and the British Occupation. One of the students jumped into the river in solidarity with the martyrs of 1946 saying: “I am no better than those who died here”. A number of students had organised the march in orderto let traffic flow as usual and protect participants from assault. Students raised banners that proclaimed their demands, the most significant of which was “Homeland Freedom and University Independence”. They also raised pictures of students who were killed in the Port Said clashes and other bloody events that have swept Egypt in recent weeks. Students chanted in front of the Freedom and Justice Party offices in Manial, condemning the party and accusing them of being a lackey to the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.
