One person was killed and five others were wounded in Cairo Tuesday when relatives of 20 detainees attempted to storm a police station, authorities said. The group used firearms and Molotov cocktails in a failed effort to free the detainees inside, the Egyptian daily al-Masry al-Youm reported. Two police officers were among the wounded. Maj. Gen. Adel Mehanna, area security director, said military officers as well as security forces responded to the call for help from the Dekerness police station. Witnesses said the relatives exchanged fire with police in a failed attempt to gain access to the station. The incident is likely to increase worries about lawlessness in the country, the newspaper said.
