A Palestinian teen is in custody for slapping two Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) soldiers and will face assault charges, prosecutors said Thursday.
Ahed Tamimi, 16, is held in Israeli custody with her mother Nariman, 43, for slapping and kicking two IDF soldiers in the West Bank which was captured on video on Dec. 15. Israeli officials arrested the girl and her mother Dec. 19 after accusing the teen of being a pawn for her parents due to carrying out previous attacks on Israelis.
The Israeli court has extended their custody and the trial will be held in a military court, reported The Daily Mail.
Tamini previously bit an IDF soldier in 2015 to prevent her brother from being arrested. In 2012, Tamimi was welcomed to Turkey by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for an old photograph of her raising a fist to a soldier.
The two IDF soldiers did not fight back at Tamimi, and the military said the soldiers “acted professionally,” reported Reuters.
