The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), led Said bin Mohammed Al-Faihani, participated on Thursday
in the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC)’s session the outcomes of the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) of Bahrain.
The kingdom approved 139 recommendations out of 175.
After the statements of the Kingdom of Bahrain and those of a number of countries and NGOs, the UNHRC adopted the report of the working Group on the third Universal Periodic Review of Bahrain.
The NIHR said it would follow up on the government’s implementation of the recommendations during the next four years, based on its terms of reference granted to it through Law 26/2014 and Decree-Law 20/2016 on amending certain provisions of Law 20/ 2014 on NIHR’s establishment.
The NIHR President also made statements to a number of news agencies on the NIHR’s role in following up on the implementation of the Working Group in charge of the UPR.
Al-Faihani also highlighted the clear role played by the Kingdom to protect and consolidate human rights, citing the praise of the countries that took part in the session of Bahrain’s strides and efforts in this regard.
He also revealed that the NIHR would put forward an action plan to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations.
