President of the National Syrian Council, Borhan Ghalyon, said that the Council will meet on Saturday in Cairo, to elect its governing body. Borhan Ghalyon, has also told AFP, on Thursday, that they will soon announce the name of the Council President.The establishment of the council was announced on Sunday, in Istanbul, as a “framework of the Syrian opposition unity”, which includes various opposition parties. The council also includes independent opponents, the Muslim Brotherhood, local coordinating committees, and the Supreme Council for the Syrian leadership of the revolution, and has the support of the General Authority of the revolution and the Syrian representatives of the Kurdish and Assyrian parties.Ghalyon said during the announcement of the Council, that: “the council is the main representative of the revolution which will represent Syrian in home and abroad. It is working to mobilize people and provide the necessary support for the progress of the revolution to achieve our people’s goal to topple the regime , and establish a civil state, without discrimination,” he added that: “ the council is open to all Syrians who are committed to the principles and the objectives of the peaceful revolution” The Secretariat of the Council consists of 29 members representing various opposition factions, and will be represented in a an Executive Committee of seven members.That High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations announced on Thursday, that more than 2,900 people have been killed in Syria since the start of the repression campaign waged by the Syrian authorities against antigovernment demonstrators.
