A boat that sparked a major search when it went missing off Tonga with 11 people aboard had been found with all passengers safe and well, authorities said Wednesday.
Tonga's navy and the New Zealand air force were called in when the boat disappeared after setting off from Nuku'alofa Monday on a 90-kilometre (55-mile) voyage.
Maritime New Zealand said the 11-metre (36-foot) vessel had broken down but those aboard managed to send a text message late Tuesday providing its position.
Tongan police said a fishing boat was sent to tow it back to the capital and some passengers, including children, were taken to hospital for check-ups but soon released.
