Tripoli - Imad Ajaj

The British Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Lord Green, said during his first visit after the fall of Gaddafi that the aim of this visit is ‘to meet his Libyan counterparts’ and that to focus on main issues, such as oil and gas, construction, where he also believes that this is a good opportunity for the Libyan businessmen and the British delegation accompanying him. Green told “Arabstoday," that the purpose of his visit is not specifically signing the contracts, but to listen to the Libyan side to know what are their priorities at this stage . He added that: “according to what we have seen during this trip, there are many opportunities for reconstruction and cooperation with Libya in various sectors such as oil and telecommunications, construction, tourism, health and education. The opportunities are available and opened to us. We have the expertise and I think we can help Libyans.” He said: “I think that the opportunities are great, but we also expect that the investments will be in the two sides. Offices, advisory or consulting firms will provide advice and consulting for the construction, but executing companies will accommodate all the Libyans.” There will also be an opportunity to give our training to Libyans in both UK and Libya. Green said that: “this is not the suitable time to sign agreements, but “we are currently focusing on exploring the opportunities.  For example in London there will be a conference tomorrow to discuss the investment opportunities, and we will encourage the industrial sector, construction and other issues during the conference.” He said that all British companies are trying to look at the current situation on the ground, but Prime Minister, David Cameron, spoke with some companies that are looking forward to carry on their work in Libya, but he didn’t mention the names of those companies.
