Israel has developed monitoring equipment to reportedly ensure the security of its soldiers and its borders on the Gaza Strip and Egypt's Sinai peninsula. The intelligence devices consist of a balloon carrying cameras capable of monitoring movements at a height of 400 metres. An Israeli officer in the unit responsible for these devices said intelligence reports had recently indicated many attempts, in Sinai and Gaza, to "infiltrate Israel and carry out attacks". He added: "With the recent changes in Egypt and the rise of Muslim Brotherhood, Israel’s concern is increasing for the intensification of attempts, especially from the global jihad and hostile Islamic movements, to infiltrate Israel." The balloons can reportedly thwart attacks with the mounted cameras that convey captured information to the operations centre which in turn transfers the information to the Air Force to directs a hit against operatives. It is said that the security services provided a budget of 15 billion shekels to ensure the security of the border with the south. Israeli media sources quoted a security official as saying that Israel would "not stand idly, indifferent to the new era of the country of the Nile". The official added. “The rise of Egyptian President-elect Mohammed Morsi, in place of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, has made senior security officials lose sleep, who devote much of their time to think deeply on our southern neighbour."
